About Albany
The historic center of New York State, Albany forms the Capital District with the cities of Troy, Schenectady and Saratoga Springs. Founded by the Dutch on the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers, this important port was orginally named Fort Orange and was an important trading post. The second oldest city in the state, Albany was renamed by the English for the Duke of Albany. For over a century it has been the center of the New York state government and higher education activity and is an important hub for transportation and entertainment in the area.
