About Albertville
Albertville, with its population of more than 17,000, boasts of many outdoor recreational activities in and around the area including camping, hiking, whitewater rafting, and - in winter - shiing and snowboarding. There is also access to lakes and beaches. Up until the 1830's, what is now Albertville, was inhabited by the Cherokee Indians who were then removed to Oklahoma. The first settlement came nearly twenty years later and was named Albertville after the town leader, Thomas A. Albert, who died in 1876. It was incorporated 15 years later in 1891. The town was destroyed in 1908 by a tornadoo. Exactly 102 years later to the day, history repeated itself devistating the town again.
