About Alexander
Named after an early settler, an Alexander Rea who settled in the area in the early 1800s, the town of Alexander is in the southern part of Genesee County. Alexander was incorporated as a town in 1812 and today has a population of just over 2500 people. The founding father reportedly purchased the land, nearly 30 acres, for just $56.20. The Alexander Classic school, a carefully ptreserved one room school house, is on the National Register of Historic Places. From 1967 onwards, the Alexander Steam Show has been exhibiting antique machinery and equipment and is a major tourist event in western New York.
