About Angola
A small village in Erie County just outside Buffalo, the curiously named Angola was the scene of a train wreck in 1867 that claimed fifty lives and was dubbed the "Angola Horror." Previously known as Evans Station, the large population of Quakers in the village changed the name to Angola in solidarity with the missionaries in that African country.

A quaint little village with views of the Lake Erie shoreline, Angola retains the feel of a turn-of-the-century village. The buidling of the Buffalo and State Line Railroad in 1852 energized this small community and introduced manufacturing and distribution centers. Angola is now home to headquarters of Goya Foods Inc. one of the world's largest food manufacturers and distributors.
