About Ashland
Ashland, known as the “City of Friends”, is a town in Clay County, Alabama and draws its name from the plantation home of Henry Clay. He was a 19th century statesman in the house of representatives & the senate. Known as “The Great Compromiser” for his ability to arrive at agreements during tumultuous times in history, 15 counties around the US were named after him.
The city has a century old courthouse named after Henry Clay as well and is registered as a national historic place which was incorporated in 1976. Also, the city is home to other notable figureheads such as Hugo Black, the Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, & Bob Riley, Alabamas 52nd governor.
