Town Of Thurman - Justice Court

About Athol
A hamlet in the southeastern part of the town of Thurman, Athol is a mountain town in the Adirondacks on the shores of the Hudson River. Athol was originally the name of the settlement, but after Warren County was established to administer the area in 1813, the new town of Warrensburg was created. In 1852 the town of Athol was further divided to form the towns of Thurman, named after early land owner John Thurman, and Stony Creek.

Athol is the scene of the annual Adirondack Fiddler's Jamboree, a festival of traditional fiddle music of the mountains. Athol also hosts other music festivals and concerts in Veteran's Memorial Field, an open-air event with a view of the Hudson River.

An inspiring landscape of mountainside lakes and forests, the surrounding Adirondacks draw outdoor enthusiasts of all sorts to the area around Athol. The annual writer's retreat in the mountains hopes to recapture some of the inspiration of Fennimore Cooper's classic novel "The Last of the Mohicans", which was written in what is now Warrensburg.
