About Auburn
The largest city in eastern Alabama, Auburn is college town in Lee County. As the home of Auburn University, Auburn has been marked in recent years by rapid growth. U.S.News has ranked Auburn in the top ten in its 2009 list of best places to live in United States. Auburns unofficial nickname is “The Loveliest Village On The Plains,” taken from a line in the poem “The Deserted Village” by Oliver Goldsmith: “Sweet Auburn! loveliest village of the plain...”

The city's local culture & history include the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, Telfair Peet Theatre, which performs a series of plays and musicals each year, the Auburn Area Community Theater, Kiesel Park, a 200-acre park with numerous trails, and the Louise Kreher Forest Ecology Preserve. Also the Donald E. Davis Arboretum showcases 150 different tree species native to Alabama and the Southeast. Auburn is also ringed by miles of multi-use trails and several lakes.

Auburn is also well known for its local sports on the High school and college levels. Most notably Auburn University's Tigers.
