Population 8,918 Avon, Indiana is located in Hendricks County, Indiana within the Washington Township. A railroad company who happened to place the name on a sign named the town. Some other names for the town included White Lick, Smootsdale, and New Philadelphia.
The Avon High School Band is known through out the state of Indiana. The Avon Marching Black and Gold, led by Jay Webb, Matt Harloff and Robert Burns, were ranked number one in Indiana seven years in a row and placed first during the Bands of America Grand Nationals in 2008
