About Bakersfield
Bakersfield is the county seat of Kern County since 1874 and located at San Joaquin Valley in Kern County, California. It is the 11th largest city in California and the 58th largest city in the United States with an estimated population of 333,719 according to a 2009 Census. The city was named in honor of Colonel Thomas Baker who came to the area during the Gold Rush era. Kern County experienced the brunt of the 1952 Kern Count Earthquake but spared Bakersfield The main economic activity of the city is oil and agriculture and accounts for 10% of the oil production of the United States.
