About Baldwin
A town on Long Island, Baldwin, New York was recently rated number 25 on Money Magazine's best places to live in the United States. Pitched as "Beautiful Baldwin" by the realtors, the town is part of the larger city of Hempstead. Adjacent to some of the most desirable realty in North America, the town of Baldwin lies inland from the beachfront properties of Atlantic Beach and next door to The Hamptons.

Founded in 1855, Baldwin was previously known as Hick's Neck and was renamed by its most prosperous citizen. The owner of the largest store in town, Thomas Baldwin was the sixth generation of the Baldwin's of Hempstead. Baldwinville was changed to simply Baldwin in 1892, to avoid confusion at the Post Office with two other similarly named towns in New York State, but the Baldwin family name figures most prominently in the history of Hempstead.


The town of Baldwin was the site of the test flight of the first American built monoplane and was the original home of the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Company, the primary supplier of aircraft to the US Air Force during World War II and designers of the Apollo Lunar Module for NASA.
