Trenton Town - Justice Court

About Barneveld
First settled by the Dutch, this village in Oneida County, New York is named after a Dutch statesman of the 16th century, Johan van Oldenbarnevelt. The first recorded settler was Gerrit Boon, an agent of the Holland Land Company, who surveyed the area in 1793. A small village of just over 300 people, Barneveld is now part of the larger town of Trenton.

Northeast of the Finger Lakes, the area around Lake Oneida features similar limestone formations and heavily forested hills. Barneveld is one of many small villages and hamlets in the region that combine homespun charm with natural scenic beauty. Many of the communities were created by the Holland Land Patent and villages and farmers can proudly recite ancestry that dates back to that time.

The Erie canal bisects Oneida County and nearby Fort Stanwix, site of an important defensive battle against invading British forces in the Revolutionary War, is a national historic monument.
