About Berne
Mostly an Amish community Berne, Indiana is located in Adams County, Indiana. Settled by seventy devout Mennonite immigrants from Switzerland in 1852 they named the town after the capital of Switzerland.
Berne has produced its share of famous residents. Fred Rohrer, legendary prohibitionist, and Don Neunenschwander, owner and maker of the famous Neunschwander Swiss Bratwurst, both came from Berne as well as Noble Prize winner Richard R. Schrock.
Amishville USA is located in Berne as well as the Swiss Heritage Village. Berne celebrates its Swiss heritage with the annual Swiss Days Festival. One of the most known lodgings in Berne is the Bear Creek Farms County Resort, which boasts entertainment, theatre, and a great place to escape to the country.
