About Bloomfield
Bloomfield, Indiana is located in Greene County with a population of 2,542. The area Bloomfield is located on has always been predominantly Native American. The Miami Tribe, Kickapoo, Piankeshaw and Wea tribes have inhabited the area since pre-history. In 1824 Peter Cornelius Van Slyke donated the land to Greene County that Bloomfield now sits on.
A.M. Kennedy and Sons built one of the best-preserved covered bridges, the Bloomfield Richland-Plummer Creek Bridge, in the state in 1883 in Bloomfield. Bloomfield is also home to the Tulip Viaduct, which is said to be the state’s most spectacular railroad bridge. The Tulip Viaduct is 2,295 feet long and 157 feet off the ground at its highest point.
