About Boonville
The town of Boonville, Indiana got its name from an early settler and also Indiana’s second governor Ratliff Boon. Booneville also has the distinction of being called “where Lincoln learned the law” because Abraham Lincoln studied law in Boonville. The future president lived on the outskirts of town and would often walk to Boonville to borrow books and watch John Brackenridge, a local attorney.
The Warrick County Museum, which holds a wealth of priceless artifacts regarding the history of Warrick County, is located in Boonville. Other areas of historic significance within Boonville are the James A. Hemenway monument, Abraham Lincoln’s monument, and the first courthouse built in 1851, which was renovated in 1904 and now houses the health department.
