About Brent
Brent is a city in Bibb County, Alabama. The community was named for Brent H. Armstrong, railroad engineer.
Brent is known worldwide from its history changing “Brent Tornado of 1973”. A number of tornadoes touched down across north and central sections of the state that day. The largest and strongest of these would become known as the Brent Tornado. It went on to cause damage in Greensboro, Brent, Centreville, Montevallo, Columbiana, Wilsonville, Childersburg, and points between. The tornado was on the ground an incredible 135 miles. It was and remains the longest track tornado in Alabama history. It is the sixth longest track tornado in U.S. History.
The city hosts the annual Heroes and Patriots Weekend. This event is held to reflect and remember the heroes and patriots of Brent who lost their lives in the devastating tornado on May 27, 1973.
