Cayuta Town Court

About Cayuta
One of the smallest townships in Schuyler County, the town of Cayuta was created from parts of towns that are now in other counties. Located in the southeast of the county, in the highlands where Cayuta Creek flows down to the Susquehanna, Cayuta was created in 1854. The town of Spencer in Tioga County and the town of Erin in Chemung County, were divided to form the town of Cayuta in the same year that Schuyler County was created.

General Phillip Schuyler was one of four major generals in the American Continental Army, and it is for him that Schuyler County is named. The county contains a portion of the Finger Lakes National Forest, a protected area of great natural beauty and is south of Lake Seneca. There is a 3 mile hiking trail that winds along the Cayuta Creek area and offers excellent views of the surrounding landscape.
