About Cedarhurst
A village on the south shore of Long Island, Cedarhurst was once known as the "Rodeo Drive" of New York City. Featuring high-end boutiques and upsacle shops, the area of Cedarhurst was the main shopping district of Long Island.

Originally known as Ocean Point, the main draw for the area was the Rockaway Hunting Club, built in 1878. The post office was established in 1884 and the name of the village was changed to Cedarhurst after a grove of cedars that stood outside the post office.

Due to the growing influence of the Orthodox Jewish community in Cedarhurst, most of the shops are now closed on Saturday to respect religious observances of this community. The area is also home to some large shuls and the Hebrew Academy of Rockaway, serving the surrounding area, occupies Central Avenue.
