About Columbiana
Columbiana is a city in Shelby County. First called Columbia, it was incorporated in 1837. It is home to the Shelby County Board of Education, Sherriffs Office, County Jail, & Harrison Regional Library.
A tour of the Old Shelby County Courthouse, which was built in 1854, and the Karl C. Harrison Museum of George Washington, which houses a fine collection of heirlooms from America’s First Family are among the things to do there.
Columbiana is the location for the local favorite “History of Liberty Day”. Liberty Day was named in honor of the Statue of Liberty, which was a gift of international friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States, and is one of the most universal symbols of political freedom and democracy. In 1986 a group of patriotic citizens organized to sponsor Columbiana’s first Liberty Day to honor and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.
