About Crown Point
The county seat of Lake County, Indiana is Crown Point. Known as the “hub of Lake County” Crown Point was settled in 1834 and became so popular because of its location. In 1837 Crown Point became known as a white supremacist hub and still holds many clansman to this day.
In 1878 construction began on the “Grand Old Lady” which is the center of Crown Point and also serves as the courthouse. While campaigning for presidency in 1896 William Jennings Bryan addressed a crowd from the courthouse steps.
Crown Point also became known as “Marriage Mill” because there was no waiting period for a marriage license. Many celebrities were married in this town. Cassius Clay, Rudolph Valentino, and Joe Jackson just to name a few.
