About Dansville
Named for an early settler, Dansville is a village in the eastern part of Livingston County. Daniel Faulkner founded the village in 1795 and lent his name to the place. The village was incorporated in 1845 and opened a spa in 1854 which drew many prominent people to its environs for the "water cure."

Dansville was truly placed on the map by resident Clara Barton who opened the first chapter of the American Red Cross there in 1881. Visiting Dansville for treatment at the spa, Barton became a resident in 1876 where she led the successful campaign to have the US government recognize the American Red Cross and join the Geneva Convention. The original chapter of the American Red Cross is still standing on Elizabeth Street.

Dansville residents host a dogwood blossom festival in the spring and a balloon festival in the fall. All summer long they enjoy the natural beauty of nearby Stony Brook State Park, a wilderness area featuring shady groves and gurgling streams.
