About Decatur
Decatur is a city in Limestone and Morgan Counties in Alabama. Known as the “River City” it lies on the banks of Wheeler Lake. It is the largest city and county seat of Morgan County. Early growth was based upon its location along a river and the development of railroad routes and boating traffic helped move the city to the front of North Alabama's economic status.

Called "Rhodes Ferry Landing" in past years, it was named for Dr. Henry W. Rhodes. Decatur was the eastern terminus of the Tuscumbia, Courtland and Decatur Railroad (in the late 1820s and early 1830s), the first railway built west of the Appalachian Mountains.

Its economy is mainly manufacturing industries, cargo transit, and hi-tech industries such as General Electric, and the United Launch Alliance.

Regional happenings include Alabama Jubilee, Spirit of America Festival, & Riverfest. Riverfest is a celebration sponsored by the Decatur Jaycees.Located at Ingalls Harbor, barbecuers come from all over the country to try beating Big Bob Gibson's Barbecue, the seven-time world champion winner.
