About Fairfield
Founded in 1859 by a retired clippership captain, Fairfield was named after Captain Robert Waterman's hometown of Fairfield, Connecticut. Located in the northeast corner of the San Francisco Bay area, Fairfield is the county seat of Solano County and the home of Travis Air Force Base. It is also the site of the Jelly Belly factory that manufactures America's jelly beans.

An ancient site of the Suisuin Native Peoples, the county of Solano is named after the chief of these peoples who received the land grant for the area from the Mexican administrators in 1837. When the land came to Captain Waterman he parceled it out to create a town and offered incentives for the construction of corporate buildings.
