About Farmingdale
A village within the town of Oyster Bay, Farmingdale is one of Nassau County's oldest communities. Settled by Thomas Powell in 1687, his house still stands on Merritts Road in Farmingdale.

Named by a real estate speculator in the 1830s, Farmingdale came into existence with the creation of the Long Island Railway. Developer Ambrose George built a general store on his newly purchased land and called it Farmingdale, the Long Island Railway stop built there adopted the name.

The village of Farmingdale was incorporated in 1904 and a State Agriculture and Technical School was built there in 1912. Nearby Bethpage State Park was expanded in 1932 and includes some of the best golf courses in the state. Farmingdale is also the site of the Republican Aviation Company, builders of the P-47 Thunderbolt.
