About Firebaugh
Located on the west bank of the San Joaquin River, the city of Firebaugh takes its name from the operator of the ferry that used to transport travelers across the river. Andrew Firebaugh also built a toll road in the area that made him his fortune during the days of the Gold Rush. Firebaugh became a stop on the overland stage coaches that transported travelers to California and the city grew from there.

Once part of a large sheep ranching area owned by Miller and Lux, the area around the city is now entirely agricultural with rows of irrigated crops such as alfalfa. The California Central Valley water tank, with the town name painted on the side, dominates the scenery of the surrounding area.
