About Florence
Florence is a city in and the county seat of Lauderdale County, Alabama. It is the largest and principal city of the Metropolitan Statistical Area known as "The Shoals" and is also the primary economic hub of northwestern Alabama. Incorporated in 1826 it was named after Florence, the capital of the Tuscany region of Italy.

Known for its annual tourism events, including W.C. Handy Music Festival in the summer, and the Renaissance Faire, it also boasts the location of the only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home located in Alabama.

Founded in 1830 as LaGrange College and located in Florence is the University of North Alabama & is the largest in north Alabama. It is also home to several museums, historical sites, and numerous parks such as The Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts, Indian Mound and Museum, and W.C. Handy Home and Museum dedicated the the "Father of the Blues", Handy Home.
