About Fonda
The county seat of Montgomery County, the village of Fonda bears a famous name. Early settlers who came up the Hudson in search of a new beginning, the Fonda family has famous descendants in the acting business. Henry Fonda is the patriach of a family of famous actors and he traces his origins back to Fonda, New York.

Henry Fonda mentions the geneaology in his autobiography and explains the original Fondas were from Genoa, Italy who had moved to Nieuw Amsterdam to be with their fellow Protestant Reformists. He fails to mention however that one of the original Fonda settlers, Douw Fonda, was scalped by Mohawks.

The Fonda Fair is an annual event that draws in the best of the surrounding countryside and celebrates the agricultural heritage of the region.
