About Frankfort
Frankfurt, Indiana got its name from the German town of Frankfurt am Main. The two brothers, William and Nicholas Pence, who originally settled the area in 1829 wanted to honor their grandparents home by naming the town Frankfurt. Contractors Allen and Michael who were paid just $20 for the project built the first Courthouse, which was a one and a half story temporary structure made of local trees, in 1830.
There have been several-haunted sighting in Frankfurt and most center around the local railroad tracks. In 1947 on the old train trestle bridge a woman decided to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train, legend has it that on foggy nights you can still hear her screaming as she walks along the bridge.
