About Fremont
Fremont, Indiana began its history as Willow Prairie when it was founded in 1834 but quickly became the Village of Brockville. It wasn’t long before in 1848 that it was once again renamed because there was already a Brockville in Indiana. The name Fremont came from John C. Fremont who was often called “the Great Pathfinder” and was a great explorer.
Pokagon State Park, located in Fremont, was named after the 19th century Potawatomi chief Leopold and his son Simon Pokagon. This 1,260-acre park has hiking trails, bike trails, cabins, swimming, toboggan runs, ice fishing and is even home to the Potawatomi Inn. With tons of nature trails and a staff of full time naturalists it’s a great place for a family get away.
