About Gadsden
The city of Gadsden is the county seat of Etowah County in Alabama. At one time it was the state's second most important industrial center next to Mobile. The two cities were important shipping centers. Gadsden catered to riverboats and Mobile for international trade. Until the 80's it was almost totally dependent on industry including Goodyear Tire, and Republic Steel. But the 70's & 80's were a crucial time for transition as the city shed there “company city” profile.

The first settlement in what is now Gadsden was Double Springs. It was begun by a mixed Indian-white settler named John Riley when he built his house near two springs around 1825.

Points of interest include Noccalula Falls Park, Gilliland-Reese Covered Bridge, Coosa River, Downtown Gadsden, James D. Martin Wildlife Park, Lookout Mountain, & Gadsden Mall.
