About Gas City
Gas City, Indiana is located in Grant County with a population of 5,868. The town’s first name was Harrisburg because the original settler in the area was Noah Harris. The Gas City Petting Zoo is a very popular attraction. Housing over 100 animals, which includes everything from Australian Black Swans to Whitetail Deer, the zoo is located in the Gas City Park.
One very notable person was born in Gas City and that would be James Dean. His birthplace and gravesite are both located in the city and can be visited by guests. The tombstone that sits at his gravesite has a story all it’s own, it has been chipped away by souvenir hunters and even stolen intact a few times but found and returned.
