About Hudson
A port city on the Hudson River, Hudson came within one vote of being named the capital of New York State. Chartered as a city in 1785, Hudson was New York State's 4th largest city in 1820 and an active port community.

In the late 1800s Hudson became infamous as a center of gambling and prostitution. That unwanted reputation finally changed after surprise raids led by then governer Thomas E. Dewey turned up several high-ranking policemen indulging themselves.

Today, Hudson is famous for its antiques and architecture. There are over seventy shops dealing in antiques in downtown Hudson and there are hundreds of buildings listed, or elgible to be listed, on the National Register of Historic Places.
