About Hunter
A small town in the Catskill Mountains, Hunter sits at the foot of Hunter Mountain, a famous site in New York State for its hiking trails and ski slopes. The town of Hunter contains two villages, one also called Hunter and the other called Tannersville.

The village was built around the lumber mills and tanneries but the summer tourist trade took prominence when visitors from the cities discovered the natural beauty of the spot. When the railroad came to town in 1882, the area flourished as a summer resort destination.

With the decline of the railway as primary transport, visitors didn't need to stay as long and the trade declined. In a recent attempt to create a revivial, residents painted their homes and storefronts bright and unusual colors.
