About Hyde Park
The hometown of former US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Hyde Park is a town just north of the city f Poughkeepsie. Located in the northwest corner of Dutchess County, Hyde Park is at the outer limit of the New York Metropolitan Area.

Originally named Stoutenbergh after an early settler, the name change came about through the work of an audacious tavern keeper. A prominent citizen of Stoutenbergh had named his estate Hyde Park to curry favor with then Governor Edward Hyde. A local tavern keeper then renamed his establishment Hyde Park to attract a better class of clientele and applied for a post office. Once the mailing address became Hyde Park then the name was officially changed in 1812.

As well as Roosevelt House, the town of Hyde Park is also famous for being the site of the The Culinary Institute of America, an educational institute that turns out the finest chefs in America.
