About Lindenhurst
The 4th most populous village in New York State, the Long Island community of Lindenhurst was the scene of pro-Nazi rallies in the late 1930's. In 1937 almost 40,000 members of the German-American Bund rallied in Lindenhurst to celebrate Nazism in America. Many of the Bund's members were arrested and tried for treason during the war, including several prominent Lindenhurst residents.

Originally called Breslau after the town in Silesia, a region of Germany where most of the early settlers were from, the name of Lindenhurst was chosen in 1891. The tradiitonal German-American community has since been replaced with more of a Polish population.
