About Lowville
Lowville is the county seat of Lewis County and, despite the name, is actually high on the plains north of the Finger Lakes and is the home of Maple Ridge Wind Farm, one of the largest wind farms in the USA with 195 turbines. Lowville is also the site of the largest Kraft cream cheese plant in the USA.

Named for early settler Jonas Low, a farmer of Dutch origin, the area around the Black River flats is blessed with richly fertile soil. Agriculture and Dairy Farming have long thrived in the area and with the building of the Black River Canal, several manufacturing facilities blossomed over the years. AMF, the largest manufacturer of bowling pins, still operates a manufacturing facility in Lowville.
