Mechanicville City - City Court

About Mechanicville
Settled by mastercraftsmen of what were then called the "Mechanical Arts", the city of Mechanicville was named for the occupation of its early settlers. Inhabited by millers, butchers and carpenters, this settlement in Saratoga County thrived on its mills and factories, especially after the connection with the Champlain Canal and the Saratoga and Renselaer Railway.

Mechanicville is also the site of the oldest continuously-operating hydroelectric power plant, built in 1898. Mechanicville also once boasted the the world's largest paper mill, closed in 1971, and the first High Volume Direct Current electricity scheme in the USA. The decline of the railroads saw much of the industry decline and the city is now a quiet residential area with most of the residents commuting to Albany and Schenectady for work.
