About Monsey
A hamlet of the town of Ramapo, Monsey has become a major population center of Orthodox Jews. On the outskirts of New York City, not far from the New Jersey border, Monsey has over 100 synagogues and nearly 50 yeshivas serving a population of just over 14,000 in the 2000 census.

The village was named for the Munsee people, a branch of the Delaware, that were converted to Christianity by Moravian missionaries. The Monsey Railroad Station was built when the New York and Erie Railroad passed through the area in 1841.
