About Morris
On the western border of Otsego County, the town of Morris is named after the son of Revolutionary War hero General Jacob Morris. Lewis Morris settled in the area after being granted land to make reparations for losses incured by his family during the Revolutionary War. Morris the senior was one of the signatories of the Declaration of Independence.

Territory to create the town of Morrris was taken from the town of Butternuts. The area remains an agricultural powerhouse and became famous for being the site of manufacture of the Linn Tractor. This tractor made use of a caterpillar track, similar to a tank, and became popular with farmers after the first prototypes were turned out in 1917.
