About Nora
The name Nora, Indiana can be traced back to 1871 and Swedish immigrant Peter Lawson who was appointed postmaster at Nora. Lawson named the area after his hometown parish in Sweden. He also owned a local grocery store, which is still in use today.

Nora is actually the north side of Indianapolis and has always been considered to be affluent. Many of the shopping centers found in Indianapolis are actually in Nora.

In became apparent in the 1960’s that the Marion County area was growing and needed more libraries. In September of 1968 Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Eltejorg donated 2.56 acres of land in Nora for a new library. The Building was expanded to 18,500 square feet in 1990 and serves the Nora community well.
