About Plainfield
Plainfield, Indiana became incorporated as a town in 1839, but the incorporation charter was given up because of unsuccessful attempts at town government. Township trustees at the time felt township rule was preferable. On June 25, 1904, Plainfield was incorporated a second time as a town, and this time the incorporation stuck.

The Islamic Society of North America makes it’s home in Plainfield. This group is the largest Muslim organization in North America. More than once the Islamic Society has been accused of having ties to Islamic extremists.

Although the Islamic Society has a headquarters in Plainfield so does the Western Yearly Meeting House, which is Quaker. The meeting house was built in 1857 and still serves as headquarters for the Western Yearly Meeting of Friends Church.
