Portage, Indiana with a population of 36,505 is the largest city in Porter County and the third largest in Northwest Indiana. Located at the southern tip of Lake Michigan tourism brings in a large amount of money to the area.

Robbins Pond in Portage and is a favorite local fishing spot. The lake contains largemouth bass, bluegills, crappie, bullhead catfish, and snapping turtles, which makes it so popular. A small drainage pond links the lake to Kevin’s Creek, which links to Lake Michigan.

The Indiana Dunes located on the shore of Lake Michigan is also a favorite in Portage. You can see Karner Blue Butterflies landing on Wild Lupines while listening to the waves crashing on the sandy shores. An abundance of bird and wildlife can be found at the dunes along with many other extra activities.
