About Princeton
Princeton, Indiana was named after William Prince, an Irish immigrant who was attracted to the rich farmlands of the Ohio River. He was a Gibson County Commissioner and the namesake for Princeton. The Southern Railway Shops were created on the edge of the town in 1892 and created a large boom for the economy. The Heinz plant and the Princeton Coal Mine are two other major employers in the Princeton area.

The Great Tri-State Tornado of 1925 devastated Princeton. Over 70 lives were claimed when the deadliest tornado in US history tore through Princeton and half of those deaths were in Princeton.
