About Redding
At the northernmost part of the Central Valley, Redding is the largest city north of Sacramento. First settled by Pierson B Reading, the Southern Pacific Railroad named the town for railroad man Benjamin B. Redding, The twon changed the name to Reading, but the railroad refused to recognize the change and Redding stuck.

With the expansion of the lumber industry and the building of nearby Shasta Dam, the population of Redding increased dramatically. In recent years it has become a favorite spot for retirees from the big cities of California who seek a quieter pace of life without sacrificing urban convenience. Legendary Hollywood star Clint Eastwood is a resident of Redding as is country singer Merle Haggard.
