About Schenectady
Once known as the city that lights and hauls the world, Schenectady was the headquarters of Thomas Edison's General Electric company and the American Locomotive Company. About fifteen miles northwest of Albany, near the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson rivers, Schenectady is in the same metropolitan area as the state capital.

Originally settled as part of the New Netherlands, the Dutch and English settlers were subject to attacks by French raiders and their native allies. The infamous Schenectady massacre saw 62 settlers killed in 1690.

Connecting the Hudson and Mohawk valleys, Schenectady has been a vital transportation hub since the early days of sails and rails.
