About Thorntown
Located in Boone County, Indiana Thorntown has a population of 1,577. The town was named after the Miami Indian Village that was originally located there, the village was called Kawiakiungi which mean “place of thorns”, the name Thorntown was the English translation of the indian name.

Paul Hutchens, author of a 36 book series entitled the Sugar Creek Gang, was born in Thorntown. The series was based upon the legendary escapades of a Christian gang of boys in Sugar Creek. The series was extremely popular and even though Hutchens died in 1977 there is now a new gang based upon the old one that carries on the adventures.
