About Voorheesville
Named for railroad attorney Alfred Voorhees, Voorheesville was setttled by Dutch farmers under the patronage of the Rennselaer family. In the early 1800s, the residents of Voorheesville rebelled against the patron and began a "rent war" insurrection.

The town had a unique railroad crossing in that two sets of tracks intersect in the center of town. That intersection of the Albany and Susquehenna Line and the New York, West Shore and Buffalo railroads formed the central point of the village, where an inn and a cider mill provided rest and refreshment for weary travellers.

The closing of the Albany line removed this unique landmark, one of only two in the entire United States.
