About White Plains
A rapidly growing city on the fringes of Manhattan, White Plains is famous for being a major shopping center. Revitalized by an extensive urban renewal program, it has recently become a major suburban center. The economy of White Plains is based on the many large corporations who have established their headquarters here, sparking the builiding of office towers and high-end apartment buildings.

White Plains was already the county seat of Westchester County when the British and American forces clashed here in 1776 during the War for Independence. The Battle of White Plains was an inconclusive engagement as communication was hindered by the banks of white fog that blanket the area and gave the town its name.
