About Whitney Point
A village in the Binghamton Metropolitan Area, Whitney Point is north of the city on the Otselic River. Named after early land developers William and Thomas Whitney, the area was first settled in 1800.

The village has survived severe devestation by fire (1897) and twice by flooding (1935 and 1936). The Ostelic River was dammed in 1942, creating the Whitney Point Reservoir.

The village has hosted the annual Broome County Fair since 1874 and was briefly the manufacturing center of the Whitney Automobile in 1902.
