Amboy Town - Town Court

About Williamstown
Settled mainly by farmers from Connecticut, Williamstown was created from the town of Mexico. Hard against the border of Oneida County, the site of Williamstown was a regular meeting place of the Oneida people. The hamlet of Kasoag in the center of town is on the site of their campgrounds.

One of 114 stations on the RW&O Railroad, the Rome, Watertown and Ogden Railroad ran through Williamstown. A plank road was built from Rome to Oswqgo in 1847, passing through Williamstown, as part of the plank road enthusiasm that swept the state in the mid 1800s. The town collectively invested $10,000 in the building of the road, a substantial sum at that time.
