About Wilmington
A town in Adirondack Park, Wilmington is surrounded by some of New York State's most spectacular natural beauty. Adjacent to the Lake Placid area, the town is in the shelter of the Whiteface Mountain, scene of the Alpine events at the 1980 Olympic Winter Games.

A major tourist attraction, the ski and hiking trails of Whiteface Mountain draw many vistors to Wilmington throughout the year. The nearby village of North Pole has created a Santa's Workshop theme park for children.

Originally called Dansville, the name was changed by suggestion of a settler from Delaware, who recommended his hometown of Wilmington as a better name.
